| Zac: It's been great. I grew up so far
removed from this industry and so far away from L.A. I just fell in
love with theater, and after being so focused on school my whole
life and musical theater, specifically, being my creative outlet, I
can't believe that it has turned into something more than that. I'm
grateful and thankful and amazed at how it's all turned out. I'm
still on the craziest ride of my life. |
| Zac: Musicals are very different from
other films. And as an actor, when you're preparing for one, you
train an entirely different skill set altogether. And as an audience
member, I know the feeling I have when I leave a musical is
unrivaled by any other type of film. I love watching things blow up,
but it doesn't really excite me -- and I can't sing that on the way
home. So, musicals are cool. They're unique, and I'm glad that we're
doing more of them. |
| Zac: (about whether he identifies with
"Hairspray's" Link Larkin or "High School Musical's" Troy Bolton
most) For different reasons, both. I'd like to be more like Troy. I
don't want to be shallow. I don't want to be a follower. So I just
cop out and say Troy. Also, Link's way cooler than I am. What am I
going to say? He's the stud. I'm not like that. |
| Zac: (comparing TV movie making with a
big-budget feature like "Hairspray") One of the major differences is
the amount of time and liberties we had on Hairspray abound compared
to High School Musical. They're really two different types of films
altogether. The other one is about kids. This movie deals more with
established characters and, also has such a talented, older cast. I
felt like I had to give it 110 percent in every scene to keep up.
Also, the training was a lot more intense, we had three months of
rehearsals. |
| Zac: I wish I could say I see my little
brother more. We used to fight all the time but now that I don't see
him very often I cherish the time I have with him. |
| Zac: We shot High School
Musical in eight weeks. I spent longer rehearsing for
Hairspray than filming High School Musical. |
| Zac: Being known for musicals is a great
thing. |
| Zac: Working out is my biggest hobby. It's
my Zen hour. I just zone out. |
| Zac: If I splurge on anything, it's
cologne. I love smelling good. |
| Zac: Jesse (McCartney) is one of the
nicest people around. I hate when I hear bad things about him,
because anyone who knows him would agree that he's a good guy and
really humble. |
| Zac: I've been doing musical theater since
I was a kid. And look for a CD from me in the future. I want to
write all the songs! |
| Zac: I was influenced when I was
younger by the cartoon movies that Disney put out, like
Cinderella and what not. I watched those movies over and over
when I was younger and the music is ingrained into my head.
Nowadays, I'm still humming the tunes. It taught me the
fundamentals. |
| Zac: In sixth grade, my basketball team
made it to the league championships. In double overtime, with three
seconds left, I rebounded the ball and passed it - to the wrong
team! They scored at the buzzer and we lost the game. To this day, I
still have nightmares! |
| Zac: I'm very competitive by nature. And I
like to be the underdog - It's the best way to win. To come from
behind and win is a great feeling! |
| Zac: From day one, I got addicted to
being on stage and getting the applause and laughter. |
| Zac: Ashley and I are very good friends,
but at this point we are not dating. But, who knows about the
future? |
| Zac: I think it's fine for girls to ask
boys out. I actually prefer it. |
| Zac: Personally, I was never the cool
kid. I was always sort of a bookworm. I would just like to be more
like Troy, because he's so cool. |
| Zac: Amanda Bynes and I have become close
since filming Hairsray. It's so weird because I grew up watching
her. |
| Zac: (when asked about his on-screen
chemistry with Vanessa Hudgens in HSM): At callbacks, it was a
mix-and-match session. We were stuck together through the entire
process. But at the time, we didn't know if it was chemistry or just
they didn't like us or what was going on. I guess we noticed it from
the beginning. I still don't know what it is...I think it's just...I
don't know...she's fun. |
| Zac: High School Musical has been a
blessing and a gift. |
| Zac: :(about living on his own) I wake up
every mourning and make myself breakfast. I do the dishes and the
laundry, and clean up the place. |
| Zac: I usually spend Valentines Day with
my friends. But if I did have a girlfriend, I'd bring her flowers
and candy. |
| Zac: I love the discussions online, They
can pick out things in the movie that you’d never dreamed people
would find out. I don’t go that often. I try not to because it can
either give you a big head or tear you down. |
| Zac: I like when a girl knows what she
looks like and dresses to accentuate those
features. |
